Obituary

Master Sergeant E8 (Retired), James John Edgar Brady (80), of the late Margaret Elizabeth Brode Rafferty (mother) and John Darby Brady (father) went to the big DZ (drop zone) in the sky on August 3, 2024 (to celebrate the birthday of his close friend David "Rock" Broadwater with him).

Brady was a Vietnam and Iraq (Desert Storm) veteran. He spent 4 years with the regular Army and 22 years with the Maryland National Guard in various units but mostly with the 20th Special Forces Group. He also retired from the Department of Defense as a civilian with 25 years.

He loved fishing with his nephew Dennis Krantz and good friends Ron Falcone and Doug Taylor on the Susquehanna River and the Flats. His biggest thrill was a fishing trip to the Florida Keys with his nephew Dennis.

Brady traveled extensively, through personal interest and military service, all over the United States and many foreign countries, including Ireland, Scotland, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Panama, Germany, Turkey, Iraq, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and a cruise to Alaska where he fished and panned for gold.

Brady was a big sports fan, especially of the Baltimore Orioles, old Baltimore Colts, Baltimore Ravens, and the Maryland Terps, and attending and watching Nascar races. He played softball for over 40 years all over Maryland. In later years, he enjoyed playing golf with his buddies Tom Knight, Bill Crouse, Stan Raley, cousin "Pickles" Brode and all the guys with the American Legion League from Havre de Grace and Aberdeen.

Brady is survived by two sisters, Nancy Webb and Theresa McKenzie, and is predeceased by another sister, Shirley Krantz. He is also survived by multiple nieces, nephews, and friends, including Dennis Krantz, Diane Farro, Donna Jensen, David Krantz, Cindy Woods, Adam Webb, Kara Yates, Gloria DeJesus, and Vanessa & Michael Berchini.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at 3 PM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 927 Pulaski Highway, Havre de Grace, MD 21078.
