Obituary

James Wallace “Wally” Fisher, a lifelong resident of Havre de Grace, passed away unexpectedly at his home on August 17, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on April 13, 1941, Wally was the son of the late Mary Ellen Jobes and step-father Ed Jobes, and his father Millard Fisher.

Wally was a proud lifetime resident of Havre de Grace and a graduate of Havre de Grace High School. He enjoyed gathering with his classmates for lunch and staying connected with lifelong friends.

Wally spent his career as a lab technician at American Cyanamid / Cytec, where he was respected for his precision, reliability, and steady work ethic. He approached his work the same way he approached life — with quiet dedication and a deep sense of responsibility.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Diann Fisher; his son Scott Fisher; and his daughters Pamela Downs (Troy), Shelby Cass (Shane Noyes), and Jennifer Smith (Michael). Wally was a proud grandfather to Stephanie Zuder‑Havens, Kara Hollenbaugh, Brittany Galsterer, Colby Scarborough, Grace Smith, and Chase George; and a loving great‑grandfather to Julian, Mya, Graham, Jordan, Connor, Robbie, Aliyah, Ava, and Ethan. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Robby Ecalono, whose memory he carried close to his heart.

Wally lived a life rich in simple pleasures and steady joys. He played in the Senior League Softball program until the age of 65, loved playing golf, and was a lifelong member of the Elks. He also served his community as Past Unit Commander of the Aberdeen American Legion SAL, a role he carried out with pride and commitment.

Music was one of Wally’s great loves — especially the timeless sounds of Queen and The Beatles. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens, and hardly a day passed without any sports event playing on his television. Whether cheering on his teams or enjoying a classic rock anthem, Wally found joy in the everyday rhythms of life occasionally with an ice-cold Miller in hand.

He will be remembered for his loyalty, his humor, his love of family, and the unmistakable warmth he brought to every gathering. Wally made your day better every time you saw him. His presence was steady, familiar, and deeply cherished. His family will have a lifetime of wonderful memories.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., followed by burial at Angel Hill Cemetery.
