James Thomas (Tommy) Heimiller, 76 years old of Elkton, MD passed away on May 22, 2024.
Mr. Heimiller was born in Havre de Grace, MD, November 10, 1947, to the late Wilber (Boots) Heimiller and Sara Ann Walker Heimiller. He was the loving brother of Debra Ann McCarthy (Paul) and the uncle of Kevin Thomas McCarthy and Jason William McCarthy.
Tommy grew up in Havre de Grace. In high school, he was a standout athlete on the Football, Baseball and Basketball teams, as well as a member of the marching band, Tommy was known as that person who was willing to help out wherever needed.
He attended West Chester University then transferred to Towson State University where he graduated with a degree in education. He competed in sports at both Universities on the college level.
After graduation he worked as a teacher in the Harford County and Baltimore City Schools, and later found a passion for working with special needs children. He worked at St Elizabeth's School and Rehabilitation Center in Baltimore, and Susquehanna Job Corp and Bayside Community Network. He continued helping and working with special needs children and adults throughout his life. He changed directions and began working for Security Management Corporation as a Construction Coordinator. He later owned and operated his own painting company for many years.
Throughout his life, he continued to play sports and played for several softball and baseball teams, and was a member of the Yankee Rebels Drum and Bugle Corp. Also, throughout his adult life, Tommy maintained active memberships in the Elks Lodge, the VFW, the American Legion in Havre de Grace, and the Pine Grove Inn in Elkton Maryland.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday May 29, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at 927 Pulaski Highway Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral Services will begin at noon. The Reverend Mark Specht will officiate. Interment will be in Angel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cecil County Special Olympics, 101 Mill Lane, North East, MD 21901.
