It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of James G. Hovatter, better known as Jim or Uncle Jimmy, who died on June 21, 2025, at the Senator Bob Hooper House, a hospice.
Jim was born in Harford County to Ray and Lupe Hovatter, and lived his entire life in Havre de Grace, MD.
Jim initially worked as a die setter and equipment operator at Clark's Company and then worked at Cytec for 39 years where he tested the strength of metals used for aerospace products. He retired in 2018 after 39 years in this position.
After his retirement, Jim wintered at Davenport, Florida, close to his favorite place in the world, Disneyworld. Jim was known to his family and friends as a Disney Fanatic who loved meandering around the park, people watching, dining at his favorite restaurants and going on his favorite rides. Jim also liked traveling, especially to Ocean City, MD, wandering the boardwalk eating Thrasher's Fries and Fisher's Popcorn.
Jim was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Havre de Grace, MD. where he used his warmth and kindness to uplift the youth, often accompanying them on outings and purchasing them soft drinks and snacks.
Mr. Hovatter is survived by his siblings and their spouses, Mary and Bill Turner, Kris and Joe Mulcahy, Therese and Glenn Yarbrough, and Scott and Gladys Hovatter. In addition, Jim was the cherished "Uncle Jimmy" to his twelve nieces and nephews, eleven grand nieces and nephews, and five great grand nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 108 S. Stokes Street, Havre de Grace, MD on July 26, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. Officiating is Pastor Jimmy Rufenacht. Friends and family will gather to honor Jim's life, legacy and memories.
In this time of sadness, let us remember Jim not just for his passing, but for the love and joy he brought to all who knew him. His spirit will forever live in our hearts.
