Obituary

With heavy hearts and celebratory spirits, we honor the life of James Frederick Rude Sr., a loving husband, devoted father, and cherished friend, who passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on January 5, 1947, in Cincinnati, OH, Jim lived a life filled with purpose, passion, and unwavering love for his family and country.

A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Jim enlisted in November of 1966, and served honorably until his discharge on January 31, 1985, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. His bravery earned him numerous accolades, including the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, among others. Jim dedicated two tours to Vietnam, demonstrating an enduring commitment to service that inspired everyone around him. Mr. Rude also worked as a State Inspector Mechanic for 14 years at Woody's service Center, and then worked for 20 years at Perry Point VAMC.

Jim's heart was as vast as the waters he enjoyed fishing in, and he cherished nothing more than spending time with his family. He was a dedicated coach and a passionate volunteer with the Havre de Grace Little League, where he fostered love for the game in the next generation. His loyalty to the Philadelphia Eagles was fierce, often spent cheering for his team, and he found joy in watching wrestling and NASCAR. Jim's spirit of camaraderie was also evident in his Life Membership with American Legion Post 47.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted wife, Carol Rude, children, A proud family man, James is survived by his devoted wife, Carol Rude, and his eight children: Christine Rude, Stephanie Rude, Billy Rude, Charles Rude, Melissa Cox Gibson (Scott), Stephen Cox (Tammy), Jason Stauffer, Shawn Stauffer (Rachel), and James F. Rude, Jr., and Michael Rude (Julie), 22 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and his siblings, Roger Rude (Ineke), Larry Rude (Mickey), and Charlene Rude (Dale). His legacy of love and strength will continue through them as they cherish the memories of his generous spirit and unwavering support.

To celebrate Jim's extraordinary life, a visitation will be held on December 12, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 927 Pulaski Highway, Havre de Grace, MD. A memorial service will follow, starting at 12:00 PM, where family and friends will gather to share memories, honor his legacy, and unite in their love for a remarkable man.

As we remember Jim, let us rejoice in the kindness he shared, the laughter he sparked, and the love he instilled in everyone around him. His legacy will forever remain in our hearts.

James was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Rude, mother, Thelma Rude, grandson, Shawn Stauffer, Jr., siter Doris Rude, and brothers, Tommy Rude and Billy Rude.
