Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jeffrey Lynn Hinte, a beloved husband, son, brother, and friend, who left us peacefully on September 23, 2025, at the age of 70. He was born on August 5, 1955, in Beckley, West Virginia. Jeffrey was a lifelong learner and had passion for architecture, sports, food, travel and wine.

As an architect, he dedicated his skill and vision to the federal government for 40 years, where he influenced countless projects throughout his career. He held two Master's Degrees, which served as a foundation for his designs. He had a special appreciation for the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, having visited several of his projects.

Beyond his professional achievements, he was a remarkable ultra-marathoner and co-founder of the H.A.T. Run, a challenging 50-kilometer race set in the beautiful Susquehanna State Park. Jeffrey's impressive running accolades included victories in multiple 100-mile races, and induction into the RASAC Hall of Fame in 2013, demonstrating his unwavering dedication and love for the sport. Jeff won races of up to 200 miles and was ranked as high as 12th in North America at 100 miles.

In addition to his athletic pursuits, Jeffrey had a profound appreciation for travel and culture. He explored the world with zest, and his adventures took him to 6 continents enjoying the food, wine, and people. He completed 200 miles of the Camino de Santiago, swam at the Great Barrier Reef, and visited the Great Wall of China. Although he traveled far, West Virginia was always his home.

A lover of tennis and Formula 1, he attended Grand Slams and Formula 1 events, immersing himself in the excitement of the sports he cherished. His enthusiasm for fast cars, led him to proudly own and drive several sports cars over the years, but Lotus remained his favorite and he could often be seen cruising around town with a jaunty hat, scarf, and big smile.

Jeffrey was also an accomplished photographer and a passionate wine enthusiast, with a discerning palate that allowed him to appreciate the intricacies of fine vintages. His interests and pursuits reflected not only his zest for life but also his ability to connect with others over shared passions. In a unique twist, Jeffrey also held the title of Scottish Laird, a mark of his rich heritage and connection to his ancestry.

Jeffrey is survived by his devoted wife, Amy Hinte; his beloved father, Jack Hinte; his caring sister, Rebecca Bacon; and his supportive brother, James Hinte. Each of them will miss his warmth, laughter, and unwavering support.

A public visitation is scheduled for October 1, 2025, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., where family and friends will gather to celebrate Jeffrey's remarkable life and legacy. We invite all who knew and loved him to come together to honor a man whose spirit shone brightly and whose impact on our lives will remain forever cherished.

A traditional Celtic Wake will also be held on October 15th.

Jeffrey was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Hinte.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Friends of the Concord Point Lighthouse.
