There are few words to express the deep pain and sorry of losing our beloved Jerry Ray Cather, who departed this life on March 27, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on November 7, 1952, in Gary, Indiana, to the late James and Mary Jane (Marshall) Cather. Jerry led a life marked by dedication, service, and a deep love for his family and country. Residing in Aberdeen, Maryland, Jerry was a proud a proud veteran of the United States Army, who served twenty-three years for his country. Jerry attained the rank of Sergeant and carried the values of honor and loyalty throughout his life. His commitment to his fellow veterans was evident in his active membership with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6054 in Aberdeen, Maryland, the American Legion Bernard L. Tobin Post #128, Aberdeen, Maryland and Hammond Victory Post #232, Hammond, Indiana. Jerry's passion for life extended beyond his service; he was a man of many talents who found great joy in working on cars and fixing things, always ready to lend a helping hand to those around him.
Jerry's life was filled with love and laughter, evident in the cherished relationships he nurtured. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Ann Cather; his children, Jerry Ray Cather, Jr., Patty Luker, Rick Cather (Melissa), Patricia Wilcoxon, and Tammy Wilcoxon. Jerry was also a doting grandfather to Jordyn Cather, Bryonna Cather, Candan Cather, Megan Eller, and Wendall Eller, and a proud great-grandfather to Lily Eller, Wyatt Eller, Julian Johnson, and Isabelle Johnson. He shared a special bond with his brothers, David Cather, Rick Cather, and James Cather, and he was preceded in death by his dear brothers, Jack Cather and Bob Cather
Known for his love of cars and his innate ability to fix things, Jerry was a practical man with a warm heart. He possessed a rare talent for bringing people together, sharing not just his skills, but his laughter, wisdom, and kindness. His spirit will undoubtedly be missed by all who knew him.
