Obituary

With great sadness, we announce the passing of JoAnn Marie Baummer, a beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted friend to many. JoAnn was born on May 26, 1951, in Baltimore, MD, and peacefully left this world on March 25, 2024, at the Citizens Care Center in Havre de Grace, MD. She was predeceased by her husband the late Martin Baummer, her father the late Joseph Kyzour and her mother the late Elizabeth Thompson.

Throughout her life, JoAnn was known for her strong work ethic and dedication to her career in IT as a Systems Engineer at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield for more than 30 years. JoAnn excelled in her field and was respected by colleagues for her expertise and ingenuity. In the later part of her career, she became a Realtor for Long and Foster in Aberdeen.

JoAnn's greatest pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Ruhland, son-in-law, Jeff Ruhland, son, Chris Baummer, daughter-in-law, Jess Baummer, and cherished grandchildren, Cole Ruhland, Tanner Ruhland, Adalee Baummer, and Mahayla Baummer. JoAnn is also survived by many other family members and close friends.

Her family and friends remember JoAnn as a kind-hearted, generous woman who was always willing to lend a helping hand and others were blessed to have known her. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, going to the pool, Longwood Gardens, watching baseball games, reading books, and singing and dancing.
JoAnn made friends wherever she went and loved bringing people together. She always looked forward to celebrating them and making the people she cared about feel special. She and Marty spent years going to Ocean City with her lifelong best friend Sue. Many great times and trips were spent with Marty's family and with her neighbors and friends on Andrea Avenue including John, Cheri and Anna. Later in life, she spent endless days at the Bulle Rock pool with friends and their group called themselves the "Deep Enders." Precious memories were made with her Bulle Rock friends, where laughter was always had, conversations were shared, and dearest friendships were made. She loved spending time and going to lunch with Jean, Joe and Theresa and those special lunches continued through her final weeks.
JoAnn left a beautiful legacy to her family, instilling hard work and the importance of being caring and mindful of how they impact others. She taught them how to celebrate those they love. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 14, 2024 at 11 A.M., Bulle Rock Restaurant, 320 Blenheim Lane, Havre de Grace, MD, where a luncheon will be held immediately following the service. This will provide an opportunity for family and friends to gather and honor JoAnn's memory and celebrate her.
Our entire family appreciates all the loving care, friendship, and going above and beyond to make our mom feel special throughout the last three years at the Dacota Assisted Living. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make a contribution via check to the Dacota Assisted Living, 468 West Bel Air Avenue, Aberdeen, MD, a memorial gift may also be made on the day of service.
In this time of sorrow, may we find comfort in the memories we shared with JoAnn and in the love she brought into our lives. Rest in peace, JoAnn Marie Baummer. Your light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts forever.
