Mr. John Scott Shannon
John Scott Shannon passed away at Harford Memorial Hospital on Monday, March 24, 2008. He was 86. He was born in Cumberland, Maryland to the late John William Shannon, and the late Esther Mary O'Baker Shannon. He was the beloved husband to the late Constance Fallon Shannon. He was the fiancé of Rose Deal of Havre de Grace.
Mr. Shannon was the father of Joel Shannon and wife Kay of Collingswood, New Jersey, Pat Shannon and wife Vickie of Oaklyn, New Jersey, Richard Shannon of Havre de Grace, Maryland, the late Tommy Shannon and the late Kay Gilbert, and his son-in-law Jim Gilbert of Havre de Grace, Maryland. He was the beloved grandfather of fifteen Grandchildren, and several Great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, the late Rita Meise and the late Gertrude Ewers. He is also survived by his first wife Dorothy Elizabeth Rapp of Jacksonville, Florida.
Mr. Shannon served in the U.S. Army in the Intelligence Area and subsequently he continued that work with the Foreign Science Technology Service of the U.S. Government in Washington D.C, Charlottesville, Virginia and at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Maryland.
Mr. Shannon was also a Command Sergeant Major retired in the Army National Guard in Cumberland and Havre de Grace, Maryland.
Mr. Shannon was a member of the Susquehanna Lodge 130 Boumi Temple; he was a 32nd Degree Mason, he was a member and Past State Commander of the VFW. He was also a member of the American Legion in Havre de Grace. Mr. Shannon did extensive volunteer work through the VA, especially at the Perry Point VA Hospital, and also through the, First Christian Church, where served as a deacon.
A viewing will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2008 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A. 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, Maryland 21078. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the First Christian Church of Havre de Grace, 800 Giles Street, Havre de Grace, Maryland 21078 with Pastor Ronald L. Tabor officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jim Deal, Scott Shannon, Ross Shannon, Joe Gordon, Jason Britton, Sean Shannon and Michael Shannon.
Internment will be at Harford Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen, Maryland
