It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Earl "Stoney" Stoneberg, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us peacefully at home on March 27, 2026, at the age of 75. John was born on October 7, 1950, in Spangler, PA, and he spent his final years in Havre De Grace, MD, where he cultivated a loving home filled with warmth and joy.
Stoney was a dedicated Railroad Track Engineer, known for his unwavering work ethic and deep appreciation for the railroads that connected communities across the nation. He served proudly in the United States Navy for two years, embodying the core values of dedication and service to his country.
Beyond his professional life, Stoney had a myriad of passions that defined who he was. He had a deep fondness for old cars and spent countless hours tinkering with various projects around the house and yard, showcasing his skills in woodworking and small engine repair. A talented musician, John was an amazing guitar player and singer, often filling the air with melodies that resonated with love and nostalgia.
Stoney was a member of the American Legion Post 47 and The Bel Air Moose Lodge, and he was a former member of the Havre de Grace Elks Lodge. These affiliations highlight not just his commitment to community and camaraderie but also the joy he found in connecting with others.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Tammy Stoneberg, along with his cherished children: Eric Stoneberg, Amy Stoneberg, Brian Bonar, and Jessica Bonar. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren: Matthew Stoneberg, Greg Stoneberg, Julia Stoneberg, William Stoneberg, Nathan Stoneberg, Kierstin Staats, Makaydin, Katelynn Reisman, William Stone berg, and Nathan Stoneberg. Great grandkids: Zeke Stoneberg, Nolan Stoneberg. John is also survived by his siblings: Joan Stoneberg, James Stoneberg, Janice Kirsch, Jean Stiffler, Jack Stoneberg, and Norman Stoneberg, all of whom will carry his spirit in their hearts forever. John was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Stoneberg and Lois Merriman Stoneberg, his son, Mark Stoneberg, and daughter, Ashley Bonar.
In honoring Stoney's life, A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 11 AM until 2 PM at Zellman FUneral Home, P.A., in the Fairbank Room. For easiest access, park on the left side of the building. Family and friends are invited to gather together to celebrate John's remarkable life, share memories, and support one another through this difficult time.
As we remember John Earl "Stoney" Stoneberg, we reflect on a life well-lived, filled with love, creativity, and service. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
