John R. Swindell
John R. Swindell, of Sykesville, formerly of Havre de Grace, passed away on October 7, 2009. He was 77.

Mr. Swindell was born in Bel Air, MD to the Late Charles W. and Alice L. (Bowers) Swindell. He was the beloved husband to the late Fran Swindell.

He is survived by his daughters Debbie Snyder and her husband Ralph of Sykesville, MD, Sandy Costello and her husband Rob of Lewisburg, PA and Peggy Thompson and her husband Ron of Bel Air, MD. He was a loving grandfather of Stephen Thompson, Katie Thompson and Jason Thompson all of Bel Air, MD, Padraic Costello of Lewisburg, PA, David Snyder and Brian Snyder both of Sykesville, MD. He was the brother to Wilbur Swindell, Jr. of West Hartford, CT and Millicent McLean of Valrico, Florida.

Mr. Swindell served in the United States Navy and was in the Korean War. He was retired from the Bell Atlantic Telephone Company and was a member of the Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, American Legion Post # 47, Elks Lodge and a former member of the VFW. He was a graduate of the Havre de Grace High School and loved getting together with his family and former classmates. He enjoyed decoy and wood carving, crabbing and camping.

A viewing will be held on Friday, October 9, from 6-9 PM at the Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD 21078.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 10, at 2:00 PM, at the Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD 21078.

Interment will be at Harford Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen, MD.

Officiating will be Pastor Ed Heydt.

Pallbearers will be Stephen Thompson, Jason Thompson, Padraic Costello, David Snyder, and Brian Snyder.
