With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joshua Kevin Russell, who left us peacefully on September 3, 2026, at the age of 44. Born on November 29, 1981, in Nassawadox, VA, Joshua's journey through life was marked by those who knew Joshua and will remember him for his warm spirit and kind heart. 

Joshua was always a free spirit. He never took easily to societal norms, and no matter the criticism Josh went his own way. He was smart and intelligent-sometimes too smart for his own good- and possessed a natural curiosity about the world around him. He wanted to know how things worked and why they worked.

Joshua had many favorite things such as movies and music, and had a lifelong curiosity and appreciation for figuring things out. He was also an exceptional carpenter, possessing a natural ability to work with his hands and create things with a skill that seemed to come instinctively to him

Joshua was deeply cherished by his family. He is survived by his father, Kevin Russell; his step-mother, Rose Marie Russell; and his brothers, Jacob Russell (Cassie) and Jonathon Russell (Kelley). He was predeceased by his mother, Heather Ann (Schilling) Reynolds. He also leaves behind his beloved nieces and nephew, Heather, Amelia, Sylvie, Luke, and Maggie. Also important to Joshua was his cousins Matthew Jones, Bobby Jones, Staci Cooper, and predeceased by Michael Wyatt. Along with his second set of parents, Mitchell and Maria Jones, these relationships were a source of great joy and meaning in Joshua's life.

Joshua Kevin Russell may have departed from this world, but his legacy of love, and kindness and will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

Funeral services will be private and to be determined.
