Obituary

Joyce Ann Ray, passed away on January 17, 2025, at the age of 79 in Havre de Grace, Maryland. Born on May 2, 1945, in the mountains of West Virginia.

Joyce's journey through life was one of partnership and shared dreams with her loving and dedicated husband, Jimmy Ray, who predeceased her after 56 years of marriage. Together, they navigated life's challenges and celebrated its joys, creating a family legacy. Joyce is survived by her pride and joy; her little Shih-Poo dog, Snuggles "Snuggie", her four children, Rhonda Ray Drupieski and husband Joseph, Theresa Ray Jackson, Jimmy Ray, Jr. and his wife Denise and Christina Ray Woodie. She was a proud grandmother to Clinton "Tony" Ray, Joseph Drupieski, III, Kylie Ray Drupieski, Dylan Ray Jackson, Alyson Jackson, Jordyn Ray, Sydney Ray, Bethany Ray, Devon Woodie, Skyler Ray Woodie, and Aidan Woodie. Joyce was also blessed to witness the birth of her great-grandchildren, Sophia Ray, Sebastian Ray and Elena Drupieski.

In addition to her immediate family, Joyce leaves behind a legacy of memories cherished by her extended family and friends. Though she is now reunited with her late brothers Ronald Lee and Larry Eugene Shores, her parents, Lue Vernie and Howard Lee Webb Shores, and her beloved dog Precious, those who knew her will feel the absence of her presence deeply.

Joyce's passion for life was evident in her vibrant and meticulously cared-for garden. She found solace and joy in the beauty of flowers. Her creative spirit shone brightly in her crafting, where she expressed her imagination and skill in countless projects. She was active with and sewed uniforms for the Havre de Grace High Steppers in the 1970's and, when she was able, enjoyed walks along the Havre de Grace boardwalk.

To describe Joyce as imaginative, creative, and strong only scratches the surface of the multi-faceted woman that she was. She was able to keep her sense of humor through the darkest of times. Joyce's absence will be felt in the quiet moments, the family traditions, and in the blooming of each flower in her garden.

As we say goodbye to Joyce Ann Ray, we take solace in knowing that her legacy will continue to bloom in the hearts and lives of those she loved. Her memory will serve as a guiding light, inspiring patience, understanding, humor and creativity, in all who were fortunate enough to have been a part of her life.

Joyce's life was a tapestry of beautiful moments, shared experiences, and an abundance of love. As we reflect on her time with us, we are reminded of the impact one life can have on so many; she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
