Kathryn Schott Hill, age 87, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025, at her home with her family by her side after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Born in rural Cornwall, PA on December 3, 1937, she was the daughter of Leonard Z. Schott and Carrie Bachman Schott. The youngest of three children, she grew up on her family's bucolic farm, which remains in the Schott family to this day.
After graduating from Cornwall High School, Kathryn attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology. She later earned her Master of Education degree from Towson State College.
Kathryn wore many hats during her long and diverse career. After completing her formal education, she worked for two years at Norwich High School in Norwich, NY, and then for ten years as a high school Biology and Biochemistry teacher at Havre de Grace and Aberdeen high schools. Later in life, it brought her much joy when her former students would remember her and share fond memories of their times in her classes. In the early 1970s, she began working side by side with her husband, Cecil F. Hill, Sr, to acquire apartment rental units. At one point, they jointly owned and managed Terrace Garden Apartments and other units in the Havre de Grace area. Her initials provided the name of their company, "KSH Properties." In 1972, Kathryn earned her Realtor Associate license and began selling real estate as well.
In addition to being a successful and well-educated businesswoman, Kathryn was civic-minded and donated countless hours serving her beloved community of Havre de Grace. An active member of Havre de Grace United Methodist church, she served in many roles on a variety of committees, including President of the United Methodist Women. She was Past President of the Soroptimist International of Havre de Grace, Board Member and recipient of the President's Award. She worked tirelessly on organizing and fundraising for the Soroptimists Annual Art Show and had the privilege and joy of driving a pair of Clydesdale horses in the annual Independence Day parade! Kathryn served as a Member of the Advisory Board of the NBRS Financial Bank. And along with her husband Cecil, was a charter member of the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum and received the Golden Cleat award in recognition of their many years of service.
Kathryn enjoyed traveling, bowling, reading, and watching the Orioles and Ravens play. However, her greatest joy in life came from spending time with her family. She truly loved and cherished her children and grandchildren and was known for filling them with candy from Bomboy's, sweet treats from Goll's Bakery and for fun shopping sprees at Target.
Kathryn is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Cecil F. Hill, Sr; son Cecil F. Hill, Jr. (Sandy) and daughter Heather Rose (John); grandchildren Faith Hill, Hope Hill, Patrick Rose and Abigail Rose; brother Leonard Schott and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Frances Yeager.
Funeral services will be provided by Zellman Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 10:00AM until 12:00pm, immediately followed by a memorial service at 12:00pm. Private interment will be at Harford Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, Soroptimist International of Havre de Grace, or Rock Steady Boxing of Forest Hill.
