Kathy Lynn Sams, a beloved mother, grandmother, and dedicated registered nurse, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2024, at the age of 77. She was the devoted wife of the late Ret. U.S. Army SGM. John Walker Sams. Born in Salem, NJ, to the late Kenneth and Muriel Miller, Kathy dedicated her life to the care and well-being of others, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. Kathy brought light and love to all those around her through her dedication to the care and well-being of others and her commitment to her family.
A graduate of Penns Grove High School in 1965, Kathy's dedication to nursing was evident even in her youth, working as a Candy Striper before obtaining her bachelor's degree and embarking on a fulfilling career as a Registered Nurse. Throughout her career, Kathy excelled in various nursing roles, from Nurse Supervisor to working in the ICU, ER, and as a Cardiac Catheter Nurse. The only field she did not tread was pediatrics, a choice reflecting her focus and dedication to her work. She worked many years at Harford Memorial Hospital and Father's Martin Ashley. Her excellence in nursing was recognized when she was awarded the Governor's Award for Nurse of the Year in 1993.
Kathy's nurturing spirit was not confined to the hospital walls; she was a natural caregiver who always put her family first. She traveled extensively to support her husband's military career, demonstrating unwavering dedication and love for her family. Kathy found joy in the simple pleasures of life, from crocheting to enjoying the beach, traveling, reading, watching television, and indulging in her favorite seafood, especially crabs.

A compassionate soul to the core, Kathy's love extended beyond her family and patients. Even in her final years, her commitment to her profession never wavered, with reminders to her sons to stay vigilant in renewing her nursing license until her last days.

Kathy Lynn Sams is survived by her sons Kevin B. Sams (Karena) and Brian K. Sams (Lisa), and grandchildren Brianna, Gabriel, and Ethan Sams, all who were the light of her life. She was predeceased by her sister Beth Miller.

Funeral services to honor Kathy's life will be held at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 927 Pulaski Highway, Havre de Grace, MD 21078 on Monday, September 23, 2024. A visitation will be held from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M., followed by the funeral service at 12:00 P.M.. Interment will be at Darlington Cemetery immediately following services.
In the hearts of those who knew her, Kathy's legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will forever be cherished. She will be deeply missed. May her soul rest in peace.
