Obituary

Larry Robert Chatham, a beloved member of the Havre de Grace community, passed away on February 10, 2026, in Lewes, Delaware. He was born on October 11, 1944, in Havre de Grace, Maryland, and he dedicated his life to both service and community engagement.

Larry graduated from Havre de Grace High School and later went on to enjoy a fulfilling career as an Information Specialist, retiring from the Department of the Army Aberdeen Proving Ground. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional life; he proudly served as a veteran of the Maryland Army National Guard, a point of pride he cherished throughout his life.

Community involvement was at the heart of Larry's character. He was a dedicated volunteer, giving countless hours to organizations that mattered to him. Larry was a life member of the BPO Elks 1564 in Havre de Grace and the Weedon Elliott VFW Post 8126. He also held memberships with the David C Dolby Sussex Co. Amvets Post 2 in Long Neck, DE, and the Joseph L. Davis American Legion Post 47. Through these affiliations, he forged lasting friendships and contributed positively to the lives of many in the community.

In addition to his work with veterans' organizations, Larry was deeply involved in fire service. He served as a valued member of the Susquehanna Hose Company from 1962 until the time of his passing, fulfilling various leadership roles, including 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant, and Captain. He played a critical role in key projects, such as the move of the firehouse and served diligently on multiple committees, where he was known for his organizational skills and dedication to ensuring the community's safety.

Larry's contributions did not stop there; he was also a member of the Aberdeen Volunteer Fire Company between 1970 and 1978 and served with the Joseph L. Davis Ambulance Corps from 1962 to 1970. His unwavering commitment to these organizations showcases a lifetime of dedication to serving others.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Linda Wilson Chatham, and his daughter, Lori R. Chatham. Larry is also survived by his brothers, Jerry R. Chatham and his wife Judee, Mark Chatham and his wife Mary, and Michael Chatham. He leaves behind brothers and sisters-in-law Sam Scheibler, Thomas Wilson and his wife Gloria, Chuck Wilson, Vickie Wilson, Mark Crouse and his wife Michelle, along with several nieces and nephews who held him dear.

Larry was predeceased by his parents, J. Ralph Chatham and Thelma Baker Chatham, and his sister, Janice A. Scheibler.
