Laural Ann Watts Green was called home by her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ on December 30, 2014 after a brief illness. She was surrounded by family members. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and grew up in the small town of Carmel, Indiana, attending the local school, Carmel School, from first through twelfth grades. She went on to attend Taylor University, but later transferred to Ball State University. Following her graduation in 1943, she returned to Carmel School to teach fifth grade for two years before joining the Red Cross in 1945. She was stationed at Port Deposit Naval Training Center in Port Deposit, Maryland. During this time, she met Montgomery M. Green of Havre de Grace, Maryland, whom she married in April of 1947 after a brief courtship.
Once married, Ann and Montgomery moved to Sion Hill, which is currently the only National Historic Landmark in Harford County, Maryland. There they raised their four children. Over the course of their marriage, they traveled extensively, sometimes taking their children with them. Ann's passion for adventure never dampened, as she continued to travel until well into her eighties.
Ann was a founding parent of Harford Day School in Bel Air, Maryland, where her children each attended grade school. She was also a very active parishioner of St. John's Episcopal Church in Havre de Grace, Maryland. Ann served on the vestry of St. John's and on the Board of Trustees at Harford Day from 1972 to 1978. She was also a charter member of the Evergreen Garden Club.
She is survived by her brother, William O. Watts of Millington, New Jersey; her sister, Helen Freemon of Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania; her children, Montgomery C.M. Green and wife Nancy of Houston, TX; John R. M. (Jeremy) Green of Austin, Texas; Elizabeth (Libby) W. Green and husband Jeffery Gonsecki of Avondale, Pennsylvania; and R. Jonathan M. Green and wife Diane of Havre de Grace; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Montgomery in 1993.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at 1:00 PM, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 114 North Union Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD. The Reverend T. James Snodgrass will officiate.
