Lawrence "Larry" W. Burkins
Lawrence "Larry" W. Burkins of Havre de Grace, MD passed away on December 8, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. He was 82. Born August 13, 1927 in Childs, Maryland, Larry was the son of the late Edson and Marietta (Curry) Burkins. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Marian (Ragan) Burkins; one brother William David Burkins and five sisters: Dora Keithley, Alice Richardson, Clara Hawley, Mary Dixon, and Grace McMullen. Larry served in the U.S. Army post-World War II in Germany. Following his service to our country, he worked for the railroad, and was a former Havre de Grace Policeman. He worked many years in the finance business and retired from Fleet Finance, Inc. in Bel Air. He loved eating crabs and drinking beer and spent time watching the Orioles and the Ravens and hanging out at First Fire and Safety with his long-time friends Butch and Chip Benjamin. He was a member of the American Legion Post #47 in Havre de Grace. He is survived by his daughter, Linda and her husband Dave Williams, of Abingdon; two step-grandchildren, David Williams,II and his wife Jane of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, and Stacy Snyder and her husband Ray of Darlington; four step-great grandchildren, Christopher, David and Hanna Williams and Christian Snyder. In addition, he is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews and by the brothers and sisters that came into his life from his marriage to his beloved Marian. A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2009 from 6 to 8 PM at the Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 S. Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD 21078. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 11, 2009 at 11 AM at the Zellman Funeral Home, P.A. Officiating will be Frank Dicken. Pallbearers will be: David Williams, II, Jim Richardson, Francis Dixon, Jr., and Ray Snyder.
