Obituary

On April 23, 2026, our beloved Linda Ruth Kimball, aged departed from this world peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on May 25, 1950, in Havre De Grace, Maryland, Linda lived a life filled with intellect, creativity, and compassion. She was a prominent mathematician who dedicated many years of her professional career to the Department of the Army, contributing her talents to civil service with unwavering commitment.

A proud graduate of Havre de Grace High School, Linda was co-valedictorian of the Class of 1968, where her brilliance began to shine. She earned her Bachelor Degree at Western Maryland College, where she was awarded a full scholarship. She graduated in 1972 with honors and dual majors of Mathematics and English Literature.

Following college, she worked for a short time as a math teacher at Joppatowne middle school before accepting a position as a mathematician at the U.S. Army Materiel System Activity (AMSAA) on Aberdeen Proving Ground, where she remained until her retirement in 2012. While at AMSAA she worked on Logistics, Artillery and, most notably, Command and Control systems. By her retirement she was one of the Army's leading analysts on Command and Control systems.

It was also at AMSAA that she met Bill Clay, who would become her husband and life partner on 17 February 1978.

During her career she went on to earn a Master's Degree in Operations Research from Central Michigan University, a testament to her love for learning that extended throughout her life. Linda's passion for education was matched only by her interests outside the classroom. She was an avid reader with a particular fondness for murder mysteries, finding joy in the thrill of a good plot.

In addition to her accomplishments in mathematics and literature, Linda embraced her creative side through writing and drawing. Her artistic endeavors were as vibrant as her spirit, reflecting her adventurous heart and imaginative mind-the same heart and mind that fueled her love for travel and genealogy. Linda explored the stories of her ancestors, weaving together threads of history that connected her family across generations.

Linda leaves behind her devoted husband, William Clay, their cherished daughter, Lauren Clay (husband Kevin), and beloved grandchild, Joseph Kragenbrink. She will also be deeply missed by her brothers, Bruce (wife Edwina), Sam (wife Jocelyn), and Richard (wife Anita) Kimball, and her sister, Charlotte (husband Pete) McCall as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Each of them shared countless memories filled with laughter and love, which will forever remain etched in their hearts. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Donald Kimball and Ruth Willan Kimball and her sons Michael and Nicholas.

As we celebrate the life of Linda Ruth Kimball, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, we invite all who knew her to honor her memory. A Celebration of life will be held on May 25, 2026, from 3 P.M. to 5 P.M. at the Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 927 Pulaski Highway, Havre de Grace, MD , where we will gather to share stories, reflect on cherished moments, and remember the beautiful soul that Linda was. A reception will follow, offering an opportunity for fellowship and remembrance among family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Alzheimer's Association earmarked for research in Linda's memory, honoring her spirit of generosity and love for education.
