Lois "Jeannie" Jean Marie Weiland Hoppel, 86, formerly of Hollidaysburg, PA, passed away on March 3, 2024, at home in Havre de Grace, MD, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on April 21, 1937, in Nicktown, PA, the eldest of nine children, to the late Herman and Louise (Lantzy) Weiland. She grew up on the family farm, entertaining her siblings with adventures and stories. Throughout her life she treasured her leadership role, faithfully cultivating strong loving relationships and communication between all members of her extended family.

She graduated from the Indiana Hospital School of Nursing in 1958 and provided compassionate care for patients at Spangler Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital in St. Mary's PA, the Lutheran Home in Hollidaysburg, and the Hollidaysburg Veteran's Home.
On October 21, 1961, she married Thomas Hoppel with whom she shared a blessed 62 years of marriage. Tom and Lois briefly lived in Emporium, PA before settling in Hollidaysburg for 55 years where they raised three sons.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hollidaysburg. She had a strong devotion to Our Blessed Mother and held leadership roles in the Legion of Mary for many years. A desire to live closer to family prompted Lois and Tom to move to Havre de Grace in 2020 where she was a member of St. Patrick's parish.
She will be remembered as a loving and generous sister, wife, mother, and grandmother who always put others before herself. She had a heart of service and hospitality, lovingly caring for her friends and family. Her family fondly remembers her Sunday morning waffle breakfasts, which she firmly insisted on serving even in the last months of her life.
Filled with gratitude for her life abounding in love and sacrifice, we pray that she may rejoice with the angels and saints in her eternal home, forever praising in Heaven the Lord whom she devotedly served on earth.
