Michael Scott Capp, of Havre de Grace, Maryland, passed away suddenly November 6, 2025, while vacationing in the south of France. He was 77 at the time of his death. Born on June 30, 1948, in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who touched the hearts of everyone who knew him.

In between graduation in June 1966 from Mechanicsburg Area High School and Shippensburg State College in May 1970, Mike worked summers as a Trackman for the Penn Central Railroad, performing general heavy labor removing and replacing rails, rail ties, spikes, etc. In the fall of 1971, he began work as a Biology/Earth Science Teacher for the York County Vocational-Technical School. For the next three years he was also an assistant varsity and head JV football coach having said the highlight of his coaching career was when the team finished a game against Kennard Dale High School in a 0-0 tie. In addition, he spent periods of time from June 1970 to June 1976, as a Cook for the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, seeing that good food to his military unit of 200 persons was served on time. Then in May 1975 Mike began a long career working for the Department of the Army as a Personnel/Human Resources Specialist, with expertise in employee and labor relations. After 38 years distinguished government service, he'd had enough and retired in January 2013.

Mike had a great love for music, having amassed quite a collection of vinyl, cassettes, and CD's over the years. He enjoyed talking about various artists and genres with anyone who would listen. He was particularly proud of his granddaughter, Jordana, when she became a student DJ in the broadcasting program at Kent County High School.

For years, Mike enjoyed fishing with his brother, Rob, and brother-in-law, Randy, and looked forward every year for trout season to begin.

A passionate reader, he instilled that love of books and magazines on his children. And no matter where you might find him, he always had ready reading material. He loved public libraries and what they had to offer. And completing challenging crossword puzzles was part of his daily routine.

While on a tour of duty in Germany later in his government career, Mike and Sue joined the Heidelberg International Wandering Club, making new friends and gathering memories and experiences from their travels all over Europe. As club president his last couple of years on tour, he would write entertaining and enlightening messages for the monthly newsletter.

Whether traveling abroad or going on vacation to the beach, Mike carefully chose what t-shirts he had collected over the years to wear so as to open the possibility of engaging in conversation with strangers.

In retirement, Mike enjoyed taking senior yoga classes at the local activity center. He was particularly proud to be able to serve as a docent at the Concord Point Lighthouse, sharing the history and beauty of the area with visitors.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 47 years, Susan Freed Capp, and their children Lena Hope Capp (Nicolas Lallier) and Aaron Michael Capp (Ashley) and his cherished grandchildren, Jordana Capp, Jasper Capp, and Elizabeth Lallier. He is also survived by his siblings, Laurie Miller (Randy), Rob Capp (Debbie), P. Kevin Capp (Lucy), Jeff Capp (Ginny), Randy Capp (Kerri), and Kyle Capp (Rita) and many nieces and nephews. Each family member holds treasured memories of his laughter, wisdom, and support. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Lawanna A. (Cassell) Capp and Robert H. Capp, and stepmother, Dorothy P. Capp.

Mike's Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 11 a.m. , with a visistation from 10-11 a.m., at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., located at 927 Pulaski Highway, Havre de Grace, MD 21078. Services will be Live-Streamed via Facebook @ZellmanFuneralHome, P.A., or on his tribute page. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance, sharing stories and celebrating the remarkable life of a man who loved deeply and lived fully.
