It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of longtime Havre de Grace resident Michael Joseph Hatem, who died unexpectedly on August 30, 2026, at the age of 64. Born on March 20, 1962, in Havre De Grace, MD, Michael graduated from The John Carroll School in 1980 and Loyola University Maryland in 1984. He was a cherished member of his community and devoted to his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Michael was a proud CPA, providing valuable services to his clients and leaves behind a legacy of hard work and integrity. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a caring brother and uncle, loved dearly by his siblings, Mary Beth Hatem, Frederick Joseph Hatem, Jr. (Carol), Christine L. Hatem ( Jeremy Firestone), and Stephen F. Hatem, MD (Amy), along with his beloved nephews Gregory F. Hatem, David J. Hatem, and Aaron T. Jordan (Vivian), and his cherished nieces Arianna Y. Jordan (Andrew Dennison), and Sarah A. Hatem. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Frederick J. Hatem, Sr, mother, Arianna Hatem, sister, Joanne M. Hatem, MD, and brother-in-law, Thomas E. Jordan, MD. His family was the joy of his life, and he treasured each moment spent with them.
A lover of literature, Michael enjoyed reading and was especially passionate about science fiction. He was also a devoted fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens, often sharing unforgettable moments with friends and family while rooting for his teams.
His warmth, kindness, and sense of humor will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Michael had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
A Memorial Service will be held in his honor on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A. Friends and family will gather beginning at 10:00 a.m. There will be a prayer service at 11:00. Friends, family, and all those whose lives were enriched by Michael's presence are invited to share in a celebration of his life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Michael's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting his spirit of generosity and love for others.
Michael Joseph Hatem will forever remain in our hearts and memories, and we take comfort in knowing that he has found peace.
