Michael John Smyth, a beloved father, loving partner, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on April 23, 1954, in Havre de Grace, Maryland, to Joseph J. Smyth, Sr. and Pearl Thelma (Rice) Smyth. Michael dedicated many years to his work as a Marine Lift Operator for Tidewater Marina, earning respect for his commitment and work ethic.
Michael is survived by his loving son, Michael J. Smyth and his stepchildren Amber and Jeremy Sumner, and his devoted partner of 29 years, Dawn J. Boswell. He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth Smyth; his sisters, Pauline Farris-Fairfield and Teresa Ashby (and her husband, Jerry Ashby). Michael was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph J. Smyth, Jr., and Mark Smyth, as well as his sister, Sheila Grace. He was a fun and adored uncle to thirteen nieces and nephews, and a loyal friend to many, including Phil Grundman, Carol Hencher and his ex-wife Darlene Workman.
An outdoor enthusiast, Michael loved hunting and fishing, often spending long days that turned into nights in the backyard with friends. He was passionate about boating, having been a member of the Sea Scouts in his youth, where he helped educate others on navigating the rivers and the bay. A dedicated sports fan, he cheered for the Baltimore Orioles, the Baltimore Ravens, and held a special place in his heart for the Kansas City Chiefs.
