Richard Stanley Berzinski passed from this life on June 30, 2024 at the age of 80
after enduring a seven month battle with brain cancer.
Born in Mt. Pleasant, PA, he was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Keep
Berzinski, father, Stanley Berzinski and sister, Janet Maureen Zugay.
Richard will be sadly missed by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of
seventeen years, Janet (Kenyherz) Berzinski and family members including Kira
(Kenyherz) and Jeffrey Bartlett of Columbus, Ohio, Gregory and Brooke Kenyherz
of Reno, Nevada, Dana (Kenyherz) and John Gonzalez of Churchville, Maryland
and 6 grandchildren: Elena Pinelli, Lexi, Samantha and Dante Kenyherz, and
Katherine and Emily Bartlett. Richard is the Father of Matthew Berzinski.
Richard earned his Undergraduate degree at Salem College in West Virginia and
went on to earn his Master's Degree at Loyola University in Baltimore, Maryland.
He was a well-known educator in Anne Arundel County for 40 years, becoming a
principal at the age of 27. Richard was a Principal at 5 Middle Schools: Folger
McKinsey, Quarterfield, Four Seasons, Crofton and Marley, two of which achieved
Blue Ribbon Status during his tenure. Richard also held supervisory positions in
the Central Office and after his retirement, he was a supervisor and consultant in
Baltimore City Public Schools. Throughout his career, Richard displayed a
passionate devotion to achieving excellence in education for all children.
Richard loved baseball and became an avid Orioles fan. He felt privileged to be
selected as an Ambassador for the All-Star Game at Camden Yards in 1993.
Subsequently, he continued his relationship with the Baltimore Orioles as a tour
guide for over a decade.
Richard was a lifelong member at Chartwell Golf and Country Club in Severna Park
where he was a 6 time Club Champion. His love of golf led him to be a panelist for
Golf Digest Magazine for 25 years, evaluating and playing over 1,000 different
courses throughout the United States, Scotland and Ireland.
After marrying Janet and moving to Havre de Grace, Richard became a member of
Ruggles Golf Course where he greatly enjoyed playing with the Bogey Boys and
many others. He was invited to play in many golf tournaments including Maryland
State events, Frozen Friday events in Delaware, member guest events and
countless others. Richard treasured his many wonderful friendships that he made
throughout his life.
Friends and family may call at the Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 927 Pulaski Hwy, Havre de Grace, MD 21078 on Thursday July 11, 2024 from 12 noon - 2 pm or 5:00 - 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday July 12, 2024 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church,, 615 Congress Ave, in Havre de Grace with Fr. Francis Ouma officiating. Burial will be private at a later date.
The family suggests any memorial donations be made to the Glioblastoma
Foundation or the Senator Bob Hooper House in Forest Hill, Maryland.
