Robert Franklin Hastings, of Salisbury, passed away on January 8,
2016, at the Perry Point VA Medical Center in Perryville, Maryland. He
was 67.
Mr. Hastings was born in Salisbury on October 13, 1948, to the late
Franklin H. and Laura F. (Nickerson) Hastings. A graduate of James M.
Bennett High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, and
served in combat zones during the Vietnam War.
Following his service, his career included painting cars, selling
electronics, and driving school buses. When not working, he enjoyed
reading, watching movies, going to air shows, dining out with friends,
and spending time with family.
Mr. Hastings lived in Harford County, Maryland for twenty years, where
he was honored for his ministry service to the elderly. He returned to
Salisbury in 2006.
He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Robert
McGrath, of Salisbury; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert S. and Joo
Hastings, of Ashburn, Virginia; his niece and her husband, Jenny and
Joseph Scalese, of Boonsboro, Maryland; great nephews Matthew and
Andrew; and grandson Sean.
A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of
Fruitland, on Saturday, February 6, at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers,
loved ones are encouraged to donate to the American Kidney Fund, or to
