Roberta Raye Hammel (née McDowell) passed away on March 13, 2025, in West Chester, Pennsylvania, at the age of 86.

She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Geary (Patrick Geary) & Holly Boyle (Matt Boyle); and two Grandchildren, Reilly & Brendan Boyle & her brother, Ronald McDowell.
She was predeceased by her late husband, John L. Hammel, & brother Robert McDowell.

Born on February 21, 1939, in Chester, Pennsylvania, to Lydia Lucille Knight & Robert Ray McDowell. She spent her childhood in Ridley Park, PA, and graduated from Ridley Park High School. She dedicated her career contributing to the operations @ Westinghouse, APG, & several school districts, including Havre de Grace Middle School, Aberdeen High School, John Archer School and Owen J. Roberts School District. Her work supported the education of many students and helped ensure the smooth functioning of these schools.

Beyond her professional life, Roberta had a passion for antiques and enjoyed searching for unique treasures. She also loved collecting dolls and Battenberg lace, appreciating the craftsmanship and history behind each piece. Her interests reflected a deep appreciation for beauty and tradition.

Roberta was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Aberdeen, Maryland, where she found community and faith. She also volunteered at Citizen's Care Center.

A memorial gathering will be held on March 21, 2025, at Zellman's Funeral Home, located at 927 Pulaski Highway in Havre de Grace, Maryland. Visitation will take place from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM and refreshments following.
