Roger Allen Morey, a cherished husband, devoted father, beloved grandfather, and esteemed veteran, passed away unexpectedly, on September 25, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on April 4, 1946, in Battle Creek, and raised in Allegan, Michigan, Roger spent his formative years shaping the strong, compassionate individual he would become.
Roger dedicated a significant part of his life to serving his country, enlisting in the United States Army. With unwavering bravery, he served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on May 15, 1981, holding the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC). His remarkable service earned him numerous accolades, including the Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Bronze Star Medal, among others. Roger was not only a soldier but also a leader and mentor, reflected in his achievements, including the prestigious Gold Recruiter Badge with three sapphires.
After his military career, Roger transitioned to civilian life with the same dedication he applied in service. He found fulfillment as the General Manager for Cook Motor Cars, Head of Security for Harford Memorial Hospital and Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, and as an assistant at Mitchel-Smith Funeral Home, P.A. He also spent time working at Lowe's Home Improvement, bringing his signature work ethic and kindness to every role.
Roger was a proud Life Member of American Legion Post 39 in Bel Air, Maryland, and served as the past Judge Advocate for the State of Maryland. An avid NASCAR fan and a lover of traveling, woodworking, and cruising, he cherished the moments spent playing poker and watching his beloved hummingbirds, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. As a proud American and honorable member of our military, he enjoyed collecting statues, images, and any memorabilia of bald eagles with a collection approaching 1000...maybe more.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Peggy Morey; his son, Jeffery Morey (Cerise); his daughter Janice Chandler (Mike); and his cherished grandchildren, Lindsey Ward (Bill), Jonathan Schwartz (Despina), Adriana Schwartz, Nathan Chandler, Cole Chandler, and Ally DeCostanza (Michael). Roger is also survived by his brother, Tim Morey, and several nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by: his father, Arnold Morey, his mother, Eleanor Finch Morey, his step-mother, Mary Jane "Pokie" Morey, and his brothers Larry Morey and Donald Morey.
