Ronald S. Paterno, of Darlington, Maryland, passed away at home on September 23, 2026. He was 90 years old.

Born on April 3, 1936, in Vineland, New Jersey, Ronald lived a long life marked by devotion to family and the steady presence that becomes a cherished gift to those who know and love someone well. His passing leaves a deep absence in the hearts of those closest to him.

Ronald was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Paterno, and his mother, Jennie (Zarbo) Paterno.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothea "Dottie" Paterno, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. Together, they built a life and family that will continue to carry his memory forward. He is also survived by his daughter, Mia Paterno, and his son, Joseph Paterno. Ronald is further survived by his brothers, Robert Paterno and his wife, Cynthia, and Richard Paterno, and many nieces and nephews. Ronald served in the U.S. Air Force, then received a BS in Mathematics from the University of Kentucky. He then worked as an Operations Research Analyst for the U. S. Army at the Aberdeen Proving Ground until 1991 -- and then he went fishing.

A graveside funeral service will be held on October 1, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Darlington Cemetery, Shuresville Road, Darlington, Maryland 21034.

Ronald will be remembered with love, gratitude, and quiet affection by all who knew him.
