**Obituary for Rose Mitaro**
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rose Mitaro, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world peacefully on January 3, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on May 23, 1931, in the Bronx, NY, Rose lived a life full of love, devotion, and cherished memories that will forever resonate within the hearts of all who knew her.
Rose was the proud mother of two daughters, Janet Grainger (Ed) and Joanne Mitaro (Connie Carndall), and a doting grandmother to Renee Mentzer (Chris), Amanda Vincenti, Rosalie Pantano (Daniel Nicolai), and Nicholas Pantano (Katie Glaeser). She delighted in her role as a great-grandmother to Hailey, Delaney, Kinsey, Matilyn, Jade ( Andrew ) Lila, and Maximus Nicolai, nurturing each of them with love and wisdom. Her family was her greatest joy, and she took immense pride in supporting them through dance recitals, sports events, and other milestones, always bringing warmth and encouragement.
In her earlier years, Rose was a dedicated bookkeeper for New Paltz Central High School, where she made lasting connections and fostered friendships. A devout member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New York, she cherished her faith and found joy in participating in community activities, especially BINGO nights. Rose enjoyed puzzles, ceramics, and the thrill of trips to the casino, often sharing laughter and stories with friends and family during these times.
After moving to Havre de Grace, MD, Rose selflessly tended to the needs of her husband, embodying strength and resilience. Her love of family gatherings exemplified her role as the matriarch, and her inviting spirit brought everyone together in celebration of life's precious moments.
Rose is survived by her devoted daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her siblings, Anthony Lupica and Marie Lupica, all of whom will carry her legacy forward. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Dominick Mitaro and her parents Benjamin Lupica and Sigismunda (Mamie) Capra Lupica and sister Bessie Petruzelli.
Family and friends are invited to honor Rose's life and memory. A public viewing will take place at Zellman's Funeral Home, P.A., on January 9, 2026, from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 6:00 - 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on January 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Her family welcomes all who knew and loved Rose to join them in remembrance and celebration of a life well-lived.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or American Heart Association. Rose Mitaro will be deeply missed, but her love will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
