Obituary

Shirley Frances Carroll, 86, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away January 5, 2024. She was the widow of the late Walter "Dreamie" Eugene Carroll II, who passed away in November 2002. Shirley & Dreamie were married on July 14, 1956, and had celebrated 46 years of marriage.

Born in Troutdale, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Hampton Hayes and Edna Marie Sanders. She was predeceased by her only sibling, Robert Dean Hayes. Shirley graduated from Havre de Grace Senior High School in 1955.

Mrs. Carroll retired from the US Civil Service. She was formerly employed with the Visiting Nurse Association and Evangel Assembly of God where she used her administrative and writing skills. For a brief time, she drove a school bus for Harford Christian School where her children attended. Since teaching was one of her passions, she also filled in as a substitute teacher for five years at the Havre de Grace High School.
Shirley was a Charter Member of Evangel Assembly of God, former president of the Women's Ministries, and author of "Focus on the Father". She loved her church and enjoyed teaching Sunday School and occasionally filling in at the pulpit. Those who knew Shirley would often find her wearing bright & colorful clothing and accessories, which was reflective of her bold and fun personality. Her hobbies included gardening, bird watching, crocheting, writing, yard-sale-ing, and most importantly spending time with her family.

She was the loving mother of Walter Eugene Carroll III, (deceased spouse-Patricia), Christopher Hayes Carroll, David Scott Carroll, Sandra Marie Caston, (spouse-Mark), and Joy Lynn Meeks, (spouse-Timothy).
Affectionately known as "Grandmom," or "GG," Shirley was the grandmother of Erica Marie Cogle, (spouse-Travis), Bethany Michele Sarna, (spouse-Daniel), Kayli Rose Luman, (spouse-Doug), Connor Joel Meeks, (spouse-Brianna), Landon James Meeks, Trevor John Meeks, Ava Claire Meeks, and Josie Grace Meeks; great-grandmother of Jackson Cade Cogle, London Genevieve Cogle, Luca Daniel Sarna, Gianna Antionette Sarna, Eliana Michele Sarna, Joseph Stefano Sarna, Annie Joy Luman, Rosie May Luman, Maisie Kate Luman, Heidi Claire Luman, and Aubrey Joelle Meeks.
