It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tommy Glenn McCurry, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this world on May 17, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on October 29, 1947, in Mountain City, TN, Tommy called Darlington, MD home for many years, where he was an integral part of the community.
Tommy was a dedicated businessman, operating McCurry's Garage alongside his beloved family. His skillful hands and kind heart earned him the respect and admiration of many, as he diligently worked to help those in need, always making sure their vehicles were in great condition. His commitment to his craft reflected his deep love for the community he served.
A proud veteran of the National Guard, Tommy served his country, starting in 1966, embodying a spirit of duty that carried into every aspect of his life. His nurturing nature extended far beyond his professional endeavors; he was a devoted family man, deeply loved by his wife of 58 years, Catherine Ann Reeves McCurry, and their children, Glenn Thomas McCurry (Alison) and Sharon Ann Thomas (Michael).
Tommy was an animal lover and had a passion for farming and horseback riding, often found enjoying the outdoors and tending to his beloved horses. He also found joy in his backyard swimming pool, where laughter and splashes would resonate with family and friends. As a co-founder of the Darlington Apple Festival, he was lovingly honored with the title of "Apple of Our Eye," a testament to his helpful attitude, ready smile, and ever-present optimism.
His legacy will live on through his grandchildren, Bobby Otto, Jr. (Destiny), Dustin Otto (Emily), Kylie Hunter (Jarrett) , and Mackie McCurry (Madison), as well as his great-grandchildren, Brinlee Otto, Lakyn Otto, and Bryar Hunter. Tommy is also survived by his sister, Wanda Felts, who will forever carry precious memories of their time together. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Ezekial Hampton McCurry, and Carrie Belle Elliott McCurry and his sister, Janet Kohajda.
The community is invited to celebrate Tommy's life and the impact he made on so many. A public viewing will take place at the Darlington United Methodist Church on May 20, 2026, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held the following day, May 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM, where family and friends can share their stories and memories of Tommy. He will be laid to rest at Darlington Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Glenn McCurry, Michael Thomas, Bobby Otto, Jr., Jarrett Hunter, Dustin Otto and Mackie McCurry.
In this time of loss, let us come together to honor Tommy Glenn McCurry-a remarkable man whose kindness, warmth, and spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
