Wanda Lynn Hemler, a cherished wife, devoted mother, beloved grandmother ("Wawa"), and compassionate friend, passed away peacefully from natural causes on May 26, 2026, at her home in Aberdeen, MD. Born on July 29, 1964, in Elkton, Maryland, Wanda brought joy and warmth to all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness.
She graduated from Havre de Grace High School in 1982 and dedicated 30 years of her life to serving as a Property Manager with Cecil and Kathryn Hill, and later for Harford Properties. Wanda handled every challenge with grace, particularly following her diagnosis with ALS in 2024. Despite her own struggles, she remained an unwavering source of support for her family, showing incredible courage and resilience throughout her life. Wanda's heart was her family. She revelled in every moment spent with her children, Katelyn Peters and Megan Hemler, and her beloved grandchildren, Hudson and Hazel Peters. Fridays were especially treasured as days for creating memories and sharing laughter with her grandchildren. Known for her generous spirit, Wanda went above and beyond to be there for others, offering help and hope in times of need, a testament to her selflessness and compassion. Wanda adored the beach and could often be found sporting her favorite flip flops, relishing the relaxation and joy that came with sun-soaked memories by the ocean. She was more than a mother and grandmother; she was a beacon of light and love, whose impact will resonate through the lives she touched. Wanda is survived by her devoted husband of 42 years, Mark Hemler; her daughters, Katelyn Peters (Steven) and Megan Hemler; her grandchildren, Hudson and Hazel; her sister, Bonnie Osborne (Pete); and her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Susan and Tom Hemler (Micki). The family is comforted by the love and memories they shared with her and the indelible mark she made in their lives. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Ebersole and Evelyn Hornberger Ebersole. Funeral services for Wanda will be held at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., with a public viewing scheduled for May 31, 2026, at 5:00 PM, followed by a funeral service on June 1, 2026, at 1:00 PM. The family invites all who knew Wanda to join them in celebrating her life and the love she so freely shared. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Wanda's honor to ALS research or a charity of your choice. She leaves behind not just memories but a reminder for us all to embrace life with love and compassion.
