William K. Brendle, M.D.


Dr. "Bill" Brendle was born on Long Island, NY on July 14, 1920.
He died peacefully at his home on February 4, 2010.

Dr. Brendle was a loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather and a dedicated surgeon.

He was a Chief of Staff at Harford Memorial Hospital and was in private practice with surgical clinics in Havre de Grace and Fallston for more than 34 years.

Dr. Brendle served as a flight surgeon in the Army Air Corps during WWII and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Maryland Air National Guard. He was an appointed wildlife commissioner for the state of Maryland, a member of the board of directors for Columbian Bank and a long-standing volunteer for the Havre de Grace Decoy Museum.

His interests included hunting, carving decoys, woodworking, collecting stamps and "touring the town."

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, his daughters Elizabeth Brendle-Williams and Ruth Brendle Read, grandchildren Wade Brendle Williams and Ava Brendle Williams, his brother Robert L. Brendle, Sr., as well as extended family. He was predeceased by his daughter Kathleen Anne Brendle in 2003.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 13, at 10:00 AM at St. John's Episcopal Church in Havre de Grace. A reception will follow in the parish hall.

A true gentleman and generous beyond compare, his quiet strength will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, Dr. Brendle's wish was that donations be made to the R. Madison Mitchell Endowment Fund c/o Havre de Grace Decoy Museum or to the Havre de Grace Decoy Museum proper.
