Obituary

William "Bill" Lee Hubert Major, a beloved husband, father, and friend, peacefully passed away on November 9, 2024, at his home in Conowingo, MD. Born on October 14, 1941, in Eugene, Oregon to the late Benjamin Norman and Cecelia (Franssen) Major. Bill was a proud United States Army veteran and loved his community.
Throughout his life, William found joy in the simple things - spending time with his loving wife of 42 years, June A. (Love) Major. He was the father of Marc Friedlander, stepfather to Mark Thompson, Robert Thompson, Jr., Georgia Ann Thompson, James Edward Thompson, Jody Thompson, and the late Michelle D. Thompson. He was an adoring grandfather of six and great-grandfather of five. Bill was preceded in death by his brother Norman Major and sister Velva Fisher, stepsister Vera Darlene Halberg. His family brought him the greatest happiness. His love for his family knew no bounds and was evident in every moment they shared together. William's warm heart and caring nature touched the lives of countless individuals, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Bill worked for many years and retired from the Aberdeen Proving Ground, as a Supervisor for the Motor Pool. He was a member of the Bernard L. Tobin American Legion in Aberdeen, MD, and the Aberdeen Masonic Lodge 187. William was a nature enthusiast who found joy in hunting, fishing, boating, and spending time outdoors.

In honor of William's memory and the legacy he leaves behind, a viewing will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 927 Pulaski Highway, Havre de Grace, MD 21078, from 4 P.M. to 6 P.M., where a Celebration of Life will be held at 6 P.M. Friends, family, and all who were touched by William's light are welcome to join in celebrating his remarkable life and honoring the man he was.

As we gather to pay tribute to William's life and legacy, let us remember him as the kind, dedicated, and loving soul who brought light and warmth to all who knew him. In his honorable service to his country and his unwavering commitment to his family, William "Bill" Lee Hubert Major will always be remembered with love, respect, and gratitude. May his spirit find peace in the arms of the angels, as he watches over his loved ones from above.
