William Thomas Swart Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on August 15, 1947, in Saugerties, NY, William made a lasting impact on the lives of all who knew him, and his legacy will continue to thrive in the hearts of his family and friends.
William dedicated his career to the trades, working as a machinist and recycling foreman, and he took pride in owning his own recycling business for several years. His work ethic and passion for his profession inspired many, and he was well-respected in his field.
A devoted family man, William cherished the time spent with his loved ones. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Catherine, his son Billy and his daughter Michele McGrogan; his daughter-in-law, Kristen Swart; his son-in-law, John McGrogan; and his cherished grandchildren: Bailey, Lacey, Max, Matt and Kaylee. William is also survived by his sister, Donna Valdes, her husband, Julio Valdes, and his brother Robert Swart. William was preceded in death by his parents Loretta Swart and William Swart, his brother Dennis Swart and sister-in law Marilyn Swart.
William lived in Jersey City for most of his life. Finding solace in nature, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and mowing the lawn. He loved to cook and bake, often experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, and enjoyed time shopping local grocery stores for his ingredients. He had a keen eye for antiques and classic cars, and he took great joy in collecting lighthouses-a testament to his appreciation for the beauty of craftsmanship. He will be forever missed for his sense of humor.
A public viewing will be held on November 10, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A. A mass in his honor will follow at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at 1:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate William's life and share memories of the love and joy he brought to all. The mass will be Live-streamed via Facebook @ZellmanFuneralHome, P.A.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital. His spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched, and he will forever be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for his family.
