Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Yolanda "Yoyita" Gomez, beloved daughter, aunt, and friend, who left this world on June 5, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on February 10, 1939, in San Gil, Santander, Colombia.

Yolanda, affectionately known as Yoyita, Yo-Yo, and simply Yo, was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her. A proud alumna of Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia, Yolanda graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy. After working as a Physical Therapist in Bogota, Colombia, Yolanda accepted a P.T. position with Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, helping others until retiring after 35 years of service.

Outside of her profession, Yolanda was a child at heart, delighting in the simple joys of life. She adored bunnies and rabbits, had a fondness for radishes and cats. She was an avid fan of Disney, particularly the adventures of Donald Duck, and loved the vibrant sounds of mariachi bands. Yolanda thrived at renaissance festivals, enjoyed puzzles and games, and relished any opportunity for a great party.

An adventurous spirit, Yolanda was also an avid world traveler, always eager to explore new horizons. She held her faith close to her heart, bringing comfort to herself and others as she prayed her rosary in Spanish. She cherished every moment spent with her great-nieces and great-nephews. She shared her love of Build-A-Bear, the Rainforest Cafe, Disney, and puzzles with the children, delighted to listen to their stories and share in their adventures, creating memories to last a lifetime.

Yolanda is survived by her loving nieces, Kellie Gomez-Moran, Michelle Gomez Brooks (Mitch), and Patricia Gomez Garcia, great-nieces and great-nephews, Marissa and Marcus Wilson, Lucy Brooks, Emily Brooks, Katy Brooks, Natalia Garcia, and "Tito" Garcia, and great-great- nieces Maeve and Marlo Wilson, and her life-long, best friend Cherry Koontz who will forever remember her warmth and kindness. Yolanda was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Ramiro Gomez, M.D, , mother, Maria Delia Uribe de Gomez, and brother Dr. Alonso Gomez, M.D. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Tampus, the Day and Evening Care Teams, and Rhonda, the facility manager at Grand Oasis ALF, Towson, Maryland, for their unwavering support and compassion during Yolanda's later years. Yolanda's list of life-long friends, travel comapnions, coworkers, and aquaintances, too numerous to name, too fabulous to forget and sprinkled here and there around the globe, added sparkle, laughter, and glamour to her well-lived life of adventures and fiestas.

A funeral service to celebrate her remarkable life will be held at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 927 Pulaski Highway, Havre de Grace, MD, on June 14, 2025, at 12:00 PM. Prior to the service, a public viewing will take place at the same location from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring the life of Yolanda "Yoyita" Gomez-a woman whose spirit will continue to inspire and uplift all who were fortunate enough to know her.
