The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Margaret Heins can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

My Friend

Peg Heins touched all our lives in different ways.  She was an individual who brought smiles and joy into my life and her voice always spoke words of encouragement to me.

In 1975, my husband and I moved on Giles Street and soon found Peg and Wayne to be wonderful neighbors, but when our husbands passed away, Peg and I became very close friends and a comfort to each other.  She was one of my dearest friends.  In good weather we would sit on the front porch and talk and in the winter we solved all the world's problems on the phone.  Peg and I shared a love for her precious Molly.  As Peg would say, Molly was more human than a dog.  We all know Peg had mobility problems and Molly would stay by her side until she was able to get out of the chair and started to walk.  If Peg rubbed her knee,  Molly would lick it.  Molly knew when I opened my front door if she was on the porch and she also recognized the sound of my car before she saw it.  For 12 years, Molly was a companion and a source of comfort in many ways to Peg.  In June, Molly passed away but I believe on July 28th she was there to welcome Peg home.

I remember Peg's sense of humor, her thoughtfulness, kindness and concern for her neighbors, friends and especially her family.  If I could put upon a screen a picture of Peg, you would see a Portrait of Love.  She was a loving, caring, respected and sincere person.  Her love overflowed many times.

Before I left to go out of town for a week, I visited Peg in the hospital and was encouraged because she was having a good day.  We talked for a while and I really thought the worse was over for her but that was not to be.

All good things must come to an end, just as the hues of the rainbow slowly fade into the realm of the great unknown.  I am left a void with her departure but I will always be grateful to have known Peg and will cherish the memories I have of her
