The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Arthur Coakley can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Richard W Coakley

When I entered the navy in 1943 you were just a little boy but when I came home that little lad had grown to a young man over 6’ tall. Later, you had been called by the US Army for service as a tank driver. After considerable training, you were sent to Germany to guard the Iron Curtain. You looked menacing as you propped up out of that tank. Our dad said that an enemy would see you at the opening of that turret and would completely surrender in total fear. Returning home, you and Sue settled down to a married life, raising four children in your home on Giles St. We always had a good time at your house on the 4th of July with the parade and fireworks and backyard BBQ. Whenever I visited Havre de Grace, you made everyone feel welcome. Arthur you were a good brother. And my anchor in Havre de Grace. And I am going to miss you. Good-bye.
