Obituary for John E. Kampes Jr.

John Edward Kampes, Jr., of Port Deposit, MD, passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2016. He was 75.
Mr. Kampes was born in Baltimore, MD, to John Edward Kampes, Sr., and Lillian Peters Kampes. He was the devoted husband of Bonnie Lee Kampes for 52 years, loving father of Edward Charles Kampes and his wife Linda of Sykesville, MD, Tracey Lee Kampes of Port Deposit, John Edward Kampes, III, and his wife Dawn of Colora, MD, Donna Lucretia Kampes of Port Deposit, MD, and Kelly Ann Kampes of North East, MD. He was the adored grandfather of Crystal Kampes, Aryn Lee Kampes, John Edward Kampes, IV, Calen Kampes, Kyle Kampes, and the late Edward Kampes. He was the great- grandfather of Liam Gene Kampes.Mr. Kampes was the brother of Sandra Seibert and her husband Richard, Debbie Bentley, and the late Robert Kampes.
Mr. Kampes was a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, finishing his postal career Aberdeen, MD. After retiring from the postal service, he worked at Swan Creek Country Club and Maryland Golf and Country Club. He coached Havre de Grace Little League Baseball and Federation Football for 10 years, mentoring many young athletes. He was a proud member of the NRA and and avid rifle and bowhunter, and was a member of the APG Bowmen. Mr. Kampes also won several trophies and held long-standing records at the Cecil County Dragway. He loved to golf and once made a Hole-In-One. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 47, and received awards for his volunteering at Perry Point VAMC.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 1-3 PM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 S. Washington St., Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 PM. Pastor Ron Smith will officiate.
