Lieutenant Colonel Charles “Jim” Mc Glaughlin


Lieutenant Colonel Charles “Jim” Mc Glaughlin, age 91,of Havre de Grace, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2010, at Brightview Assisted Living,, Bel Air, MD. He was born November 2, 1918 in Highfield, Maryland, to the late Charles C. and Lutie I. (Kendall) Mc Glaughlin.

Jim served in the European and Asiatic Pacific Theaters during WWII under the 615th
Ordinance Battalion, and with the 3165th Artillery and Fire Control Company. He served in the Maryland National Guard in 1936 as comptroller for the USP&FO retiring in 1974.

He was a member of the 29th Division Association, VFW Post 6027, North East, MD., VFW Post 0135, Perryville, MD., Susquehanna Lodge # 130 AF & AM and Susquehanna
Chapter Retired Officers Association. He was also a Life Member of the Havre de Grace Elk’s Lodge # 1564 and the Havre de Grace Decoy Museum and was Past Commander of the American Legion # 239 in Cascade, Maryland.

He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, loved telling stories and loved to dance. But his greatest joy and passion was being with his family.

In addition to his parents he was preceded by his wife Ruth (Zentz) Mc Glaughlin, sister Doris M. Trovinger, and son-in-law James R. Harris.

Survived by his children, Cheryl M. Harris of Havre de Grace, MD and Mark D.
Mc Glaughlin and wife Sue of Sharpsburg, MD; grandchildren, Scott Harris and wife Joann of Bel Air, MD, Stacey Reynolds and husband Jim of Havre de Grace, MD, Heather Copenhaven and husband Chris of Boonsboro, MD., Chad Mc Glaughlin and wife Julia of Greencastle, PA., and Michael Mc Glaughlin and wife Meghan of Abingdon, MD; Step-grandchildren Ralph and Brian Gossard of Sharpsburg, MD; nine Great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD., on Wednesday, August 25, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 PM. Interment will be at Harford Memorial Gardens. Dr. Ray Roberson will officiate.

Pall Bearers will be Scott Harris, Chad Mc Glaughlin, Michael Mc Glaughlin, Jim Reynolds and Chris Copenhaven.
