Obituary for David James Simmons

David James Simmons



David James Simmons, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on October 31, 2011. He was 58.
He was born in Havre de Grace, MD to the late Brinton C. Simmons, Jr., and Susie Sage Simmons.

He was the loving husband of 36 years to Joanne Patchett Simmons. He was the dear brother of Brinton C. Simmons, Jr., and his wife Mary of Findlay, Ohio, Brenda S. Colonnell of Johnson City, Tennessee, and Bruce F. Simmons and his wife Dorothy of Aberdeen, MD. He is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by his Golden Retriever and faithful companion, Bailey.

Mr. Simmons was a Physical Education teacher in Cecil County for two years, then worked at various elementary, middle and high schools in Harford County for 35 years, before retiring from Forest Hill Elementary School. He coached baseball and soccer at several schools and coached and started the football program at Harford Vo-Tech School. Mr. Simmons loved the game of golf, and volunteered for the First Tee Program at Wetlands Golf Course. He was a member of 1st Christian Church in Havre de Grace.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 3, from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 4, at 11:00 AM at 1st Christian Church, 800 Giles Street, Havre de Grace, MD. Pastor Ronald Tabor will officiate. Interment will be held at Junior Order Cemetery, Preston, MD. Pallbearers will be Brinton C. Simmons, Jr., Bruce F. Simmons, Ryan Simmons, Clark Andrews, Jr., Clark Andrews, III, and Chad Andrews.
