Obituary for Della Oeva Kozub

Della O. Kozub


Della Oeva Crabbe Kozub of Havre de Grace, Maryland, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2009, at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center in Havre de Grace, Maryland. She was born on New Year’s Day, January 1, 1918, in Trappe Hill, NC to the late James Tyra and Carrie Lou Ellen (Gentry) Crabbe. She moved to Maryland at the age of 3 and grew up on a farm run by her family in Belcamp, Maryland. She was educated at the Aberdeen High School, from which she graduated in 1935.

Mrs. Kozub was the loving wife of the late James Kozub, whom she married on July 5, 1941. She was a homemaker in the early years of her marriage, and later worked in the Designing Department for Bata Shoe Company, where she retired after 30 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, watching the Baltimore Orioles baseball games, and listening to music by George Strait. She was a member of the Mt. Calvary Free Will Baptist Church in Perryman, MD, and will be fondly remembered for the delicious Jewish Apple cakes she baked for family gatherings.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary E. Fisher and her husband John B. Fisher of Havre de Grace, MD; her son James A. Kozub and his wife Ruth Kozub of Churchville, MD; four grandchildren, Carolyn Lewis and her companion Lee Bennett of Perryville, MD, John D. Fisher and his wife, Carol Fisher of Elkton, MD Kristi Andrychowski and her husband Ron Andrychowski of Churchville, MD and Jamie Burr and her husband Chuck Burr of Havre de Grace, MD; 10 great-grandchildren, Jordan and Connor Lewis, and Savannah Bennett, all of Perryville, MD, Cameron Fisher of Elkton, MD, Joshua, Megan, Evan and Matthew Andrychowski, all of Churchville, MD, and Charlie and Katie Burr, both of Havre de Grace, MD; 5 step-great-grandchildren, Jared and Taylor Bunnell, Tanya and Sammy Ayers, all of Elkton, MD, and Sarah Bennett of Perryville, MD. She is also survived by her sister, Savannah McGee of Belcamp, MD, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 7 brothers and sisters, Sally Hackler, Eula Ingool, Ford Crabbe, Roxie Morrison, Leroy Crabbe, Elmer Crabbe, and Lutrell Zynel; a granddaughter-in-law, Marjorie Fisher; and a longtime friend Carroll Cullum.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 15, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on December 16, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, Maryland 21078.

A service will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 11:00 AM, at the funeral home. Pastor Dennis Keen will officiate. Interment will be held at Harford Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen, Maryland.
