Ellen Patricia Rhodes Brown, RN
Ellen Patricia Rhodes Brown, RN, of Darlington, formerly of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2009. She was 84.
She was born in Bayonne, New Jersey to the late Arthur Bertram Rhodes and the late Mary Ellen Kelly Rhodes.
She was the devoted wife of the late James Thomas Brown, Sr. Mrs. Brown was the loving mother of Captain James Thomas Brown, Jr., USNR and wife Donna D. Brown, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Ellen Kathleen Brown Hannon and husband Dr. Auther C. Hannon, Jr., of Darlington, Maryland. She was the adored grandmother of Maureen Brown of New York City, New York, Courtney Brown of Fort Pierce, Florida, Ryan Brown of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Auther C. Hannon, III, of Melbourne, Florida, Alexandra Hannon of Bel Air, Maryland, and Abigail Hannon of Darlington, Maryland. She was the great-grandmother of Killian Rash-Hannon. She is also survived by dear friends Donald and Carol Wooten, of Havre de Grace, Elaine Molling, RN of Havre de Grace, and Dr. David Alberth of Bel Air.
After completing high school, Mrs. Brown attended nursing school at Jersey City Medical Center. After becoming a registered nurse, she served in the United States Cadet Nurse Corps. She worked at Harford Memorial Hospital for 40 years before retiring.
She is a member of the Jersey City Medical Center School of Nursing Alumni, Class of February 1946. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She assisted with the Girl Scouts for several years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and reading and loved her cats.
A viewing will be held on Friday, August 7, from 6-9 PM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, Maryland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 8, at 10:00 AM, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 615 Congress Avenue, Havre de Grace, Maryland. Father William J. O’Brien will officiate. Interment will be held at Harford Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Auther C. Hannon, III, Norman Craig, Scott Craig, Donald Wooten, Phillip Buchanan, Donald Laye, and honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Brown, Killian Rash-Hannon, William Smart and William Barker.
