Helen Irene Smith

Helen Irene Smith of Churchville, MD, died at her home on June 25, 2008. She was 89.

She was born in Baltimore to the late William and Fannie (Webb) Bowling.

She was the devoted wife of the late Clifford Daniel Smith. She was the loving mother of Robert F. Smith and his wife Mary of West Plains, Missouri, Helen E. Braun and her husband Carroll of Hagerstown, MD, and Patricia A. Witmer and her husband James of Atlanta, GA. She was the adored grandmother of Valerie Soemadi of Iowa City, Iowa, Carroll Braun, Jr., of Hagerstown, MD, Sean Braun of Arlington, TX, James Boyd of Louisville, KY, Lori Gordon of Box Spring, Georgia, James Witmer, Jr., of Albuquerque, NM, and Kristina Remus of Allen, TX, and great-grandmother of 15. She was survived by one niece, Kathy Chaney, of Baltimore, MD. She was predeceased by two sisters, Lillian Woods and Catherine McClain.

She was a very active member of The Salvation Army. She was involved with the Ladies Ministries, and helped with church programs. She enjoyed using computers to communicate with and share pictures with family and friends. She also enjoyed crafting and crocheting.

A viewing will be held on Sunday from 6-9 PM at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD 21078. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 30, 11:00 AM at The Salvation Army, 300 Seneca Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD 21078. Major Carrol Braun and Major James Witmer will officiate. Interment will be held at Harford Memorial Gardens.
