Obituary for Helen Elizabeth Swam (Sarvino)
Helen Elizabeth Swam, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on March 17, 2016. She was 90.
Born in Havre de Grace, she was the daughter of the late Achille Sarvino and Maria Ann Serpentino Sarvino. She was the wife of the late James Rodney Swam, Sr., loving mother of James Rodney Swam, Jr., and his wife Lou Ann, of Havre de Grace, MD, Elizabeth Grantham and her husband Darrell Grantham, Sr., of Sewell, NJ, and Theresa L. Swam of Havre de Grace, MD. She was the adored grandmother of Emily Ann Grantham, Darrell Grantham, Jr., and Kathleen Anne Arnold and her husband Robert.
She was the great-grandmother of Anna Marie Arnold, Jayson Tuttle and Allyson Tuttle as well as the dear sister of Louise Buonomano of Rhode Island.
Helen was predeceased by three sisters, Jean Gilmour, Antoinette Weber, Lucille Keppinger; and a brother, Louis Sarvino.
Mrs. Swam is remembered by many for serving the students of Havre de Grace High School throughout the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. Mrs. Swam was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She loved to bake and spend time with her friends and family. Her creative talents included crocheting and needlework.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, from 6-8 PM, and Wednesday, March 30, 2016 from 10 AM – 12PM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 PM. Deacon Victor Petrosino will officiate. Interment will be held at Harford Memorial Gardens.
Contributions may be made in her memory to Cub Scout Troop 967, 101 South Union Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD 21078 or your favorite charity.
