Obituary for James E. Sampson

James Edward Sampson


James Edward Sampson, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on July 23, 2013. He was 76 years old.
He was born in Havre de Grace, MD to the late William Edward Sampson and Catherine Walker Sampson.
He was the devoted husband of 52 years to Mary Kemp Foster Sampson, loving father of James Sampson and wife Wanda; Linda Trostle and husband Brian; Emily McCloud and husband Blake; Daniel Sampson and wife Jennifer; and Jennifer Old and husband Michael. He was the beloved grandfather of Gregory, Nathan, Matthew, Brandon, Justin, Garrett, Seth, and Tyler, and great-grandfather of Ethan and Grace. He was the dear brother of Shirley Mann, Evelyn Hendrix, Samuel Sampson, Sue Lingenfelter, Catherine Schnell, and the late William Sampson.
Mr. Sampson was an avid fisherman with many friends at Perry Point fishing pier. He enjoyed woodworking throughout his life. His passions were cooking Sunday lunch, which was open to anyone, and entertaining his grandchildren. Mr. Sampson worked at J. M. Huber, he had his own home improvement company and also worked until retirement at Perry Point VAMC with 30 years of service.
A viewing will be held on Friday, July 26, 2013 from 6-9 PM, and on Saturday, July 27, 2013 from 10-11 AM at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A. 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 11:00 AM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A. Pastor Jess Bousa will officiate. Internment will be held at Harford Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, MD.
Pallbearers will be Robin Hendrix, Mark Hendrix, John Mann, Robbie Samson, Glen Lingenfelter, Douglas Lingenfelter, and David Schnell. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen “Bro” Hathaway and Paul Zachary.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 415 North Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21201, or the American Cancer Society, 8219 Town Center Drive, P.O. Box 43025, Baltimore, MD 21236.
