Jerry Wayne Hewitt




CW4 Jerry Wayne Hewitt (Ret.), 75, of Havre de Grace passed away surrounded by family on March 12, 2012. The son of Anderson Bergan and Myrtle Baker Hewitt, he was born in Newton, North Carolina. He leaves his wife of 54 years, Elisabeth (Erbar) Hewitt.
As a Warrant Officer in the United States Army, Jerry served in Vietnam and Korea. His distinguished military career spanned over 28 years. During that time he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Korean Service Medal, United Nationals Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal and other commendations for his dedication and bravery. After retiring from the U.S. Army in 1981, he worked with the Bendix Field Engineering Corporation as a Vehicle/Equipment Maintenance Supervisor and A.M. General as a Field Service Representative. He is a Past Commander of the Bernard L. Tobin American Legion Post #128; a member of the Fraternal Order of the Elks and the Veterans of Foreign War. An avid hunter and fisherman, Jerry also enjoyed crabbing and trapping with his brother-in-law Henry. A loving husband and father, he was committed to providing for his family. He loved spending time with his granddaughter Genevieve, who held a special place in his heart.
In addition to his wife Elisabeth, he is survived by his daughter, Janet Hewitt Cully and her husband, Brian; his precious granddaughter, Genevieve Elisabeth Cully; his sister, Sharon Maynard; his step- mother, Eva Smith; and his sisters-in-laws, Sibylla Husfelt, Inge Pope and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Frances Geouge; his brother, Andy Hewitt, and his brothers-in-laws, Henry Husfelt and Charles Pope.
A viewing will be held this Friday from 5pm - 8pm at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace. Where a service will be held at 7:30 P.M. His final resting place will be at Arlington National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Officiating services will be W. Lewis Geigan.

SERVICES FOR ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY, JULY 24, 2012 AT 11:00 AM. PLEASE MEET AT THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING AT ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY AT10:30 AM.
