Obituary for John V. Campbell

John V. Campbell
John Campbell of Havre de Grace, MD died at home on August 1, 2009, following two years of treatment for cancer. He was 70. Mr. Campbell was born in Baltimore, MD to the Late Reagan and Mabel (Hampton) Campbell. He was the loving husband of 49 years to Deanna M. (Engel) Campbell. John was a devoted father to Neil Campbell and his wife Sandi D. Campbell. He was the grandfather of three; Jonathan, Katherine and Victoria Campbell. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. John was in the Army from 1956 to 1959 as a tank commander in Germany patrolling along the Czech border. He retired from Bethlehem Steel after 40 years of service. He was active in scouting, serving as assistant scoutmaster. John was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Aberdeen for the past 35 years. He was also an avid hunter and sportsman, especially duck and goose hunting. John was also a competent carpenter who built his own home. He also advised, helped the church and many others with repairs. He greatly enjoyed working in his shop and making gifts out of wood for his friends and family. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 S. Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD 21078. A service will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 11 AM at the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 Mt. Royal Avenue, Aberdeen, MD 21001. Officiating will be Rev G. Neale Wirtanen. Friends and Family may make contributions to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 201 Mt. Royal Ave., Aberdeen, MD 21001 or Gilchrist Hospice Care, 11311 McCormick Rd., Suits 450, Hunt Valley, MD 21031.
