Obituary for John "Jack" McLhinney

John Eugene "Jack" McLhinney



John Eugene "Jack" McLhinney, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on May 29, 2012.
Born in Havre de Grace, MD, to the late Walter and Eleanor Guilotte McLhinney, he was 85 years old.
Jack was the loving brother of Eleanor Ferguson and her husband Leonard E. Ferguson, Sr., of Havre de Grace, MD, the late Francis McLhinney and Charles Leo McLhinney.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Mary McLhinney, six nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and nephews, and multiple great-great nieces and nephews.
Mr. McLhinney was a partner in his family's business, McLhinney’s News Depot.
He was a member of the VFW Post 8126, American Legion Post 47, and Knights of Columbus Post 2002.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, serving as an usher for many years.
He was the oldest active member of Susquehanna Hose Company, serving for 63 years, finally going inactive in 2011.
He was inducted into the Harford – Cecil Fireman’s Association Hall of Fame in 1990.
He loved attending the Maryland State Firemen's Convention, in OceanCity and spending time with his friends at the Bearded Clam while he was there. He hung out at several places in Havre de Grace, including Goll's Bakery, Walton's Hardware Store, and The VFW.
Jack was a true part of Havre de Grace. He leaves behind many smiles as friends recall their memories of “Jackie Mac”.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2012, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Monday, June 4, 2012, at 10:00 AM, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 615 Congress Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD.
Interment will be held at Mt.ErinCemetery.
Father William J. O' Brien and Father John Abrahams will officiate.
