Obituary for Joyce L. Lynch

Joyce Loretta Finkernagel Lynch

Joyce Loretta Finkernagel Lynch, 50, died July 8, 2011, with her husband of 28 years by her side in Huntsville, Alabama.

Joyce was born September 27, 1960, in Aberdeen, Maryland to George and Marian Finkernagel. Graduated from AberdeenHigh School in 1978, and earned an Associate Degree in Nursing from HarfordCommunity College in 1980. Joyce met John Lynch while he was employed at the Aberdeen Proving Ground as an intern student from Georgia Tech; marrying in 1983. Joyce largely retired after settling in Seattle, Wash to raise her family. After relocating to Madison, Ala in 1995, Joyce again began to pursue her Nursing career. Joyce earned her BSN at UAH, and was hired as the Health Programs Coordinator for the MadisonCountySeniorCenter in Huntsville, working to promote health and wellness in the senior community. After winning her initial bout with breast cancer, diagnosed in 2000, Joyce pursued Nursing interests in Dialysis first as a staff nurse, and eventually serving as Clinical Manager of FMC Odyssey Dialysis in Madison, Ala in 2005. Joyce was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer to her lung and bone in August of 2009, the disease to which she finally succumbed.

Joyce devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, her community and co-workers, including her mother who passed away at age 40 in 1977 during Joyce's senior year, after a prolonged battle with ALS.

Joyce was preceded in death by her mother, Marian DeBaugh Finkernagel, and is survived by her husband, John Lynch; Father and Step-Mother, George and Novella Finkernagel; her eldest daughter and spouse, Faith and Eli Yewdall; 1 son and 2 daughters, Justin, Caitlin and Kristin; and 1 grandson, Ziya.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 14, from 6-8 PM at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, Maryland. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 15, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Pastor Ronald Tabor will officiate. Interment will be held at HarfordMemorialGardens.
